SUMMARY:18/19 Chamber Luncheon - Small Business Week with Sylvia Ubell
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Small Business Week! We will recognize and celebrate our members milestone anniversaries. Also\, hear from local entrepreneur\, Sylvia Ubell as she tells us about the journey of two farm kids Natural Foods as they celebrate their 30th year in business in Brandon.\n\n \n\nLearn a little more about Two Farm Kids and Sylvia:\n\n \n\nSylvia and Greg Ubell opened their natural food store at its current Victoria and 34th location in Brandon on August 19th\, 1988. At the time\, they had an 18-day old daughter at their office\, a son turning 2 and a 3-1/2 year old son which goes to show you that farm kids aren't afraid of getting their hands dirty! Today\, their two sons have moved on to professional careers in other provinces while their daughter has become the head buyer and book-keeper and oversees all operations when they are away\, and when asked "How long have you worked for your parents?" she truthfully says\, "All my life!"\n\n \n\nOver the years\, two farm kids NATURAL FOODS has led the way in supporting local farm-based certified organic food\, in sourcing hard-to-find ingredients for special dietary needs such as celiac\, diabetic\, dairy-free and vegan\, and in introducing all manner of natural products from supplements made without anything artificial to cleaner personal care products with no animal testing to biodegradable cleaning products to natural fiber clothing. They take great pride in listening to their customers' requests and that reflects in current product lines very different than when they opened.\n\n \n\nPrior to her 30-year career in business\, Sylvia was a high school teacher which has been shown in her great interest in leading her customers to make healthier choices for themselves and their families. Both her face and voice will likely be familiar to many in Westman as she has voiced her own radio\, appeared numerous times on our former TV station's Noon Show\, written a Healthy Living column which morphed into a book\, and has presented at many conferences.
